How do people use dual monitors?

I'm using my brother's setup and it's the most annoying thing ever.

I'm having to look at a different monitor than the one I'm typing towards.

Don't forget to mention he's using a laptop and a monitor, the laptop is wide-screen and the monitor isn't. Poorly setup.

0/10 do not recommend.

love it, would never go back, editing on the screen visible to the office, oppo on the screen obscured by the wall.

I have two at work and they're identical and set to the same height. I actually miss all the extra space when I'm at home on my laptop. But yeah when they're mismatched it can be a pain in the ass.

I've tried to offer him my old wide-screen one so he can give me this one because it has touch screen usability, and he won't accept.

Two identical monitors is fine by my standards. IF only I wasn't using a Compaq from who knows when at the office.

The dual setup I use at work is a 24" rotated to portrait on the left, for folder viewing/skype/random stuff and a landscape 30" for primary work. Best setup I've yet used.

I use dual monitors when I'm writing a paper, one screen for the research and on page for the document

I couldn't do without anymore. For instance: having Photoshop open on the main screen and research/inspiration open on the other.

I actually regularly swipe windows towards an imaginary screen on my left when I'm on my laptop.

That sounds like torture. But I guess if you enjoy it.

Lol, how do you not. One screen for Oppo, one for pretending to work...

Do you have a keyboard plugged in to the laptop? I found it easier to have a real keyboard place between the screens. Now that I have two full sized screens I've sort of mentally assigned one as my main screen and the other as an auxiliary.

We have dual monitors at work, and I love them. Granted, they're identical and I can move them wherever I want. It makes my job infinitely easier.

So, I have a MacBook Pro (15") and a similar sized external monitor. They are at the same level. I often have Outlook on one and work on the other. Or, I might have one document on one screen and a different document in a different window and drag and drop stuff as needed. I have not having a second monitor. Plus, I have a choice Jag F-Type Coupe for wallpaper on monitor #2 as a motivator.

I'm using it right now at work, and it's really handy for me! I have a monitor hooked up to my laptop and facing me. My laptop keeps my e-mail and work-specific software, and the monitor is great for Excel and Oppo. I have the monitor turned toward me (and away from passers by), so that part is a major bonus.

Not remotely. Since most communication stuff (Skype, email, etc) is vertically-biased, and most of my work is landscape-oriented, it works really well.

I don't know, I'd be lost without at least three.

Nope, just the laptop keyboard.

I use a 23 inch for all my usual stuff and an old 32 inch tv for some games like dirt3. I also put the kids stuff on the 32 inch because they like the bigger screen better. I prefer two identical monitors if I could afford it but I think I will replace both with a 29 inch 21:9 monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc…

Laptop+Monitor is kind of ghetto, but having gotten used to having all that extra real estate to do work on, I can't ever see myself going back to only one.

It was just the 30 for a couple years, but then I moved into a new office and my buddy had a spare on a machine that wasn't being used, and I told him that it looked really lonely.

30/24 gives me all the editing real estate I need on one screen AND a complete tool on the right in vertical format

It's especially nice with a program like keyshot, which has a to of popout tools/settings/libraries. Set those up on the 24, and just work on the rendering on the 30. Probably a very similar situation to yours.

I cant live without dual monitors. I use a laptop and tv screen. Both widescreen, fortunately. But that is only at my dorm. At home i use a pc and two identical screens.
It is a blessing to watch a movie or a tv show on one screen and search for used cars on the other one.

ditto, except I use a 22" rotated with a 24" for primary. When I set it up, there wasn't a 30" option and 24's were high as a cat's back been using it for so long now.

That setup is tricky. I run a triple monitor and a dual monitor at work. All monitors are the same size, which helps with this issue. I can't imagine ever having to go back to just one monitor, I can't get enough done that way. Kills me when I am on call and have to use a laptop for work related issues.
